I'm a stay at home mom to two amazing boys. We're not your average family and we have overcome many obstacles with our oldest son Keegan. He was born at 24 weeks 6 days and weighed just 1 pound 12 ounces and was 13 1/2 inches long. He has many different health issues that have kept us on our toes, but he has a smile and laugh that can cheer up even the grouchiest person!!! We also welcomed Karson to our family in the middle of July and Keegan loves being a big brother!! I'm sure these boys will be keeping me busy for awhile!

Doing good!

I know it's been awhile since I have updated, but really there is nothing to update on! Keegan is doing wonderful and is Karson! We've had some minor illnesses; ear infections, colds, etc but thankfully nothing major. Keegan is still going to school everyday and loving it! We're still waiting to find out if we are getting the new wheelchair we want for him. He needs a new one as he is growing out of his Kidcart. I hope everyone is doing well!!!

Busy, Busy, Busy

Well summer has come and gone. Keegan is officially in school all day and he loves it! He got a new communitcation device and is still learning everyday how to use it! He has also started to roll back and forth and army crawl! Very, very proud of him. Karson has continued to get big on us! He is into everything and you can't help but just smile at him when he gives you one of his amazing smiles! I have been working at our local golf course and Kevin is back to work at the school so it seems like we always have something going on!!!

School's Out for Summer!!!!!

Well I have done a horrible job of posting on here, but in all fairness the boys keep my fairly busy!!! Karson, whose asleep at the moment, is at that stage where he is getting into everything, but it's fun to watch him explore new things!! Keegan's last day of Pre-k is today! It's bittersweet. He loves school and had a great year, but next year he will be going to Kindergarten all day!!! Yay, so proud of him. I know it's been 6 months since I have updated, but I don't think anything major has happened! We're still trying to get Keegan to gain some weight but nothing seems to be working. So we may have some extra studies in our future! His hips are also not sitting correctly in his hip sockets so we go back to the Cerebral Palsy Center in a couple weeks to get some more xrays and talk with an orthopedic (bone doctor). They have talked about maybe starting botox injections because that will help relax his muscles that are pulling the hip bones out!! I think that's about it!! We're hoping to be out everyday possible with the boys, just outside playing and letting them enjoy being kids!!! The above picture is Keegan ready for his last day of Pre-K!!!

Happy Holidays!

Well winter is finally here!! We got our first snow this weekend!! Not excited about taking Keegan to school in freezing cold weather though!! Thankfully it's not too far for us! We have been sick off and on here!! We all got hit with the stomach flu and then Keegan has been dealing also with Strep Throat and on top of that a flare up of his Hirschsprung's Disease; so it feels like he has been on antibiotics almost for a month!! But thankfully he is starting to do much better!!! Nothing too exciting to report on here!! The boys are definitely keeping me busy!!!

November

Hi Everyone!!! Keegan has been making leaps and bounds at school!!! He can now roll over from his back to his belly anytime he wants and on command!!! He also will let you know if he wants to play pattycake with you by clapping his two hands together. The best part is though he can keep his left hand completely open!!! Yay!!!! He also puts his hand over his heart like they do for the Pledge of Allegiance! We're so proud of him and I can't wait to see what the next few months bring for him!!! Don't forget November is Premature Awareness month!!

Hello October!!

Well Keegan did great during his eye surgery. This one has seemed to bother him more than the others though. He got sick twice after waking up from surgery and his eye has stayed bloodshot longer than his other two surgeries, so he's kinda been my grump bear this week, but that's ok!! We're heading to Indiana to see our family this weekend, very excited about that!!! Our extended family will be meeting Karson for the first time!! We've had a few viruses around the house the past couple of weeks but I'm sure it's just from Keegan being exposed to new germs at Pre-school!! I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Hey everyone

Fall has arrived!! I have to say I love this time of year!!! Well Keegan is keeping me super busy during the week!! In the mornings he has Pre-K till about 11am. Then on Tuesday we drive about 30 minutes for Physical Therapy and Speech Therapy. On Wednesday we drive again 30 minutes for Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. Then on Thursday we drive the same drive for Pool therapy!!! But I have to say it is all worth it especially since it is definitely helping Keegan get stronger!! He is tolerating about 1 hour a day in his walker. He isn't really taking steps forward by himself but if you push him by the handle slowly he will walk, so this is a huge accomplishment!!!! I would love to get him tolerating it at least 3-4 hours that way he can go to pre-k in his walker. Keegan absolutely LOVES school!!! He gets excited every time we mention it!! This week we are heading down to St. Louis Children's Hospital for his next eye surgery. Thankfully it's just a same day procedure and we will be home that night!! He also has tolerated his past eye surgeries so I'm hoping it will handle this one pretty well too!!! Karson is getting big on us! At his two month appointment he weighed 14 pounds 2 oz and is 24 inches long!! He is in the 90th percentile for everything!! Well I hope everyone has a great week!!!

Welcome to Holland

I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability-to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like this...
When you're going to have a baby it's like planning a fabulous vacation to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum, The Michelangelo David, the Gondolas in Venice, you may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.
After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says Welcome to Holland.Holland?!? you say. What do you mean Holland? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I have dreamed of going to Italy. But there has been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.
The important thing is they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place. So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would have never met. It's just a different place. It's slower paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you have been there for a while and catch your breath, you look around....and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills...and Holland has tulips...Holland even has Rembrandts.
But everyone you know is coming and going from Italy...and they're all bragging about the wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life you are going to say Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned. And the pain of that will never, ever, ever ,ever go away...because the loss of that dream is very, very significant loss. But, if you spend the rest of your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, very lovely things...about Holland.
